A memorable indoor playground needs a clear identity and plenty of reasons to play. At Jungle Gym in Hextar World at Empire City, Malaysia, Funlandia brought these elements together through a circus-inspired design and a varied mix of attractions.

Working with Jungle Gym’s learning-through-play philosophy, we connected spatial design, equipment integration, and project delivery to create a setting children can actively explore. Animal characters, colorful lighting, and playful architectural details give the venue its personality, while six Funlandia product categories turn that theme into hands-on experiences.

A Circus World Built Around Play

The circus theme begins at reception. Red-and-white stripes, a ticket-booth-inspired counter, and a monkey character create an immediately recognizable entrance. Inside, purple finishes and checkerboard flooring carry the visual language across the venue, connecting the different play areas.

Large character features give the space a sense of humor. A purple, wide-eyed creature overlooks the playground, while animal faces frame an illuminated wave slide. Colored light strips follow the slide’s contours, making the attraction a focal point within the wider circus setting.

We considered the appearance of the equipment alongside its placement and play function. Platforms, passages, and obstacles provide changing viewpoints as children move through the structure. A light tunnel adds another visual experience along the way, giving children something new to discover as they explore.

Throughout delivery, we focused on coordinating forms, colors, and equipment layouts with the site. This helped carry the design from the renderings into a finished environment where the theme is experienced through movement and play.

Six Ways to Explore

Ball Pool

Purple, yellow, and white balls extend the venue’s color palette into the ball pool. The area offers space for open-ended play and shared activities, with surrounding attractions and themed details keeping it connected to the overall design.

Donut Slide

Children ride down the slope on an inflatable tube, adding a different kind of sliding experience to the attraction mix. The anticipation at the start and the ride to the bottom make the Donut Slide an engaging activity to try and share with friends.

Indoor Playground

A multi-level structure combines platforms, passages, and soft obstacles. Children crawl, climb, cross, and balance as they work their way through the equipment. Changes in height and viewpoint give them different ways to experience the space.

Interactive Games

Interactive projection brings a game-based activity into the ball pool. Children aim and throw balls at on-screen targets, connecting physical actions with digital feedback. This adds focused challenges alongside the area’s open-ended play opportunities.

Interactive Sports

Interactive Sports introduces sports-based play to the venue’s attraction mix. It gives participants opportunities to practice, adjust their movements, and take turns challenging one another, adding another way for friends and families to play together.

Super Runio

Super Runio adds a sequence of obstacle challenges built around climbing, stepping, jumping, and balance. Participants assess the route, judge their movements, and work toward the next obstacle, giving the playground a more goal-oriented adventure experience.

Connecting Design with Delivery

Our contribution to Jungle Gym centered on translating the circus concept into a coordinated, usable play environment. The entrance, character features, attraction layouts, and finishes were considered together so that individual elements would contribute to a consistent identity.

For the client, the value lies in how these decisions work together on site. The theme gives the venue a recognizable character, while the attraction mix offers different levels of activity and ways to participate. Children can choose between open-ended exploration, sliding, interactive games, and obstacle challenges within one setting.

The completed project shows how design and equipment integration can reinforce one another. The circus characters and lighting establish the atmosphere; the play experiences give children a reason to engage with it.

At Funlandia, we help clients turn concepts into places families can use and enjoy. Jungle Gym Malaysia reflects that approach: a distinctive theme, a considered attraction mix, and close attention to how the design comes together in the finished space.
